When to test
The sample must be collected in the morning, before 11:30 am on Monday to Thursday, and returned on the same day on selected pick-up points or by arranging a home collection until 12:00 am.
Who should get tested
You can get tested to check the health of your kidney or in case you:
- Have used or are using performance enhancing drugs;
- You are taking anti-inflammatory medication;
- You have diabetes or high blood pressure;
- You have urinary tract diseases;
- Kidney disease or family history.
What does it measure:
Urea
Urea is a waste product produced by the body when it breaks down proteins and passes out in urine. A high level of urea indicates that the kidneys may not function optimally or signs of dehydration. It is important to note that even if one of your kidneys is damaged, results can return to normal since the other is perfectly working.
Creatinine
Creatinine is a waste product that is generated by normal muscle breakdown. Creatinine passes in the bloodstream and passes out in urine. Creatinine can be higher levels in sportspeople than average people and it is an accurate marker for kidney function and also can help in diagnosing kidney disease.
eGFR
eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) assesses how well kidneys are working by estimating the amount of blood filtered through the kidneys.
