When to test
When to test
The sample must be collected in the morning, before 11:30 am on Monday to Thursday, and returned on the same day on selected pick-up points or by arranging a home collection until 12:00 am.
Who should get tested
Routine screenings are important the older you get. This test could be appropriated for you in case you experience:
- Decreased energy;
- Irregular heartbeat;
- Weight gain;
- You want to do a check-up to your health in order to improve your lifestyle.
What does it measure:
Cholesterol
Cholesterol helps your body to make hormones, vitamin D and bile to digest food. Although if levels are too high it can increase the risk of heart disease.
LDL Cholesterol
Commonly called bad cholesterol, some LDL is essential to your health. In high levels, LDL can cause fatty deposits to accumulate inside artery walls and potentially lead to atherosclerosis and heart disease.
HDL Cholesterol
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) is produced in your liver and is part of total cholesterol. It helps to remove bad cholesterol from the bloodstream and send it back to the liver.
Alkaline phosphatase ALP
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an enzyme found in your blood that helps break down proteins. ALP is mainly found in the liver and bones. Measuring it can help you to check if there is any ongoing liver, gallbladder or bone diseases.
Gamma-GT
Gamma-Glutamyl Transpeptidase (GGT) is an enzyme in your blood that helps your liver metabolize drugs and toxins. A GGT test helps check for liver disease, bile duct injury and is also used to diagnose alcohol abuse since it can be raised in most of the long term drinkers.
Alanine transferase (ALT)
Alanine transferase (ALT) is an enzyme which is produced by the liver and helps break down food into energy. It can indicate liver damage caused by alcohol, drugs or viruses (hepatitis).
Creatinine
Creatinine is a waste product that is generated by normal muscle breakdown. Creatinine passes in the bloodstream and passes out in urine. Creatinine can be higher levels in sportspeople than average people and it is an accurate marker for kidney function and also can help in diagnosing kidney disease.
Urea
Urea is a waste product produced by the body when it breaks down proteins and passes out in urine. A high level of urea indicates that the kidneys may not function optimally or signs of dehydration. It is important to note that even if one of your kidneys is damaged, results can return normal since the other is perfectly working.
Testosterone
Testosterone is a steroid hormone important in the development of secondary sex characteristics, fertility, muscle and bone health. This test can help you understand if your values are normal, low or high.
PSA
PSA total is used primarily to detect prostate cancer. The test will measure the amount of PSA (prostate-specific antigen) in your blood that is produced by the cancerous and noncancerous tissue in the prostate. The PSA total will measure all the PSA, including both the bound and the free-floating antigens. PSA levels are determined through a blood test and an elevation may suggest the presence of prostate cancer. The test is not, however, prostate cancer specific. A high number of PSA in your blood can indicate a problem in the prostate.
CRP
CRP is the C-reactive Protein, a protein produced by the liver that increases when there are high levels of inflammation present in the body.
High levels can represent an infection, injury or even a poor diet.
Total Triglycerides
Triglycerides are a type of lipid found in blood and part of the total cholesterol level. When you consume more calories compared to the ones you burn, the excess is converted into triglycerides and stored as fat.
